Episode 22: Finding the Roots of Stress Eating
Join us this week for a conversation with Dr. Siobhan Key, a weight management coach for physicians. Dr. Key explains the concept of buffering, an action that is done to reduce discomfort, but ultimately has a negative effect. This activity could be eating, watching Netflix, shopping, drinking alcohol, or anything else - her advice applies to more than just food. Dr. Key assures us that the buffering isn't the problem in itself, and trying to stop it isn't a solution by itself. The way to stop compulsive eating is to deal with the underlying stress that is causing it. Dr. Key gives us insight into the cycles of stress that cause emotional eating and how we can manage our thoughts in the moment.
